Smoant Battlestar SS 316L Temperature Control Testing Result https://ift.tt/2LKt6jd

TLDR: I was surprised how consistent the Smoant Battlestar was, and pretty accurate.

I have been running some very basic temperature control tests on some non-DNA mods I have acquired or which are being brought by members of my vape club lately (Predator w/ Arctic Fox, Smoant Battlestar, GTRS Vboy, and VooPoo Drag). Maybe this is of interest to others.

Methodology as follows:

I am using a digital thermometer with a thermal probe. The probe is the wire/ball (K) type rather than the cylinder type, so that I can fit it into coils of different IDs. I cover the probe tip with a small amount of cotton to electrically insulate it from the coil, but I recognise this may thermally insulate it somewhat. Using Pulse 22 deck, the coil is SS316L round wire by VV, 4mm ID, spaced, 0.45 ohm. Set the mod to 220C on high power and no preheat, then fire the mod in 5-10 second bursts until I get a peak/maximum reading on the digital thermometer, which I take to be the achieved temperature. I then repeat with cotton wet with VG, which I surmise helps with thermal conduction, and probably better simulates real vaping. The cotton has usually dried out pretty well by the time I get a peak reading though, obviously. I then re-wet the cotton with vape juice and repeat. If I get similar results from all, then I will take the midpoint of the results, otherwise I keep going until I see consistent results.

The battlestar seemed to produce similar results under both dry and wet conditions, with it peaking out around 210C in both scenarios, pretty consistently, which in my view is pretty accurate (within around 5%). No singeing of course. I was really pretty impressed with both the test results and the vaping experience on temp control mode, which I did not expect.

P.S. I am very happy to take input on my methodology, I believe this is the same or similar approach used by youtubers that do temp testing, but it is hard to find people doing this work.
