Any shop owners or employees here? How do you deal with customers who are very obviously purchasing for someone else? https://ift.tt/2R8i1xf

At my store, we have a strict no straw purchase policy. Usually when someone mentions they want to buy a bottle for their husband or whoever we immediately tell them we cannot sell to them if we know they are buying for someone else who isn’t present. Most people say ok, and go about shopping without mentioning other people. I feel like this is super lax, technically we should just end the sale there. However once in awhile we get someone so incredibly dense that they want to fight us on this policy. Today I had a lady come in who said she needed two bottles. One for her, one for her boyfriend. We said the usual line and told her we can’t sell her something that’s going to someone else. “That’s ok,” she says “I need to buy one for myself too.” She then proceeds to pick up her phone and ask someone “what flavor did you need?” She was pissed when we refused to sell her anything at all after this point. One on hand, it’s really easy to just know what you need beforehand so you aren’t putting a vape shop employee in an awkward position. On the other hand, it feels shitty knowing this person will just go to my competition and say the exact same thing and buy whatever they want. I want to know how other vape shops who actually care about protecting our industry handle situations like this?
