VooPoo X217 – Temperature Control for Dual Coil High Mass Vapers Only? – Temperature Control Testing Results https://ift.tt/35JMREs

The above is the first of 7 charts/states tested and does not represent overall performance – scroll down for full report and analysis, or the TLDR summary. See a full list of mods tested so far, at the end for comparison.

TLDR: For very high mass dual coil builds (dual claptons around 0.25 ohms) and very high resistance and high mass MTL builds (MTL clapton around 1 ohms), the temperature control outcome is actually not too bad. Otherwise this mod is a TC disaster and one of the worst I have seen yet. Its limited to 80W in TC mode for reasons I cant comprehend, the TCR behaviour is a rollercoaster except on the highest mass/resistance coils, and TCR values are expressed in a crazy format you need a conversion table (not supplied) to understand. BUT it actually does provide reasonable dry hit protection…though that isnt very useful; I guess you could call it "overheat protection" for low power users? If this is typical of Voopoo products, I would say look elsewhere for temperature control – you have much better options for the same or less money (see my list at the end). I have just received VooPoo Drag 2 Refresh edition for testing, so we will find out soon!

The following represents the results of temperature control testing of the beautifully designed VooPoo X217 dual 21700 mod, using a custom TCR of 1350 (closest I could get to accurate for SS136L). The conditions of each test are shown in the title of each graph. A perfectly accurate temperature control result is the red line matching the yellow line.

For this first coil, low resistance, mid to high mass, vaped dry, without airflow (shown above), there was some slight singed smell, but otherwise not too bad.

Here is a more realistic case, low ohms, wet, with lots of airflow. It hits nearly 230C before dropping back to about 220C (10C over the set temp). Its a rollercoaster, unusable, nothing more to say.

Here we have a mid ohm, dry coil, without airflow. Around 10C under the set temp this time which is a good outcome on a dry coil, and again, remarkably flat and smooth. No hint of burned cotton here. Actually decent dry hit protection.

Mid ohm, wet, with airflow and more mass, we see the mod controlling the temperature actually reasonably well…and then the power just drops off inexplicably. Rollercoaster ensues, unusuable, enough said.

Here we have a high resistance dry wire with very low mass…mod wouldnt even fire, which actually isnt a bad result for a dry coil.

High ohm, high mass, wet with lots of airflow we get a flatter outcome for long enough that you would have probably finished your draw, but the power is still bouncing around a lot…and then the rollercoaster starts. Its a little under temp, but ignoring what happens after 5 seconds (shouldnt be relevant) this actually isnt terrible. This mod could work for high mass high resistance vapers around 1 ohm.

Here we have the highest mass coil; a dual clapton coil, wet, with airflow. Unfortunately we only get about 60W out of it on this dual 21700 mod (wow what a missed opportunity), and it pulls back on the power far too early, so it takes around 3 seconds to get to temperature. But then its actually not bad though it does seem to get a little too hot as the airflow stops.

OVERALL: Unless you fall into a high mass high resistance MTL vaper category (MTL clapton wire around 1 ohm) or a dual coil high mass vaper around 0.25 ohms, then youre going to have terrible outcome with this mod. That said, it does indeed offer mostly functional dry hit protection for a low power setting…but when its marketed as Temperature Control that is just confusing. The way it controls power in most states is a rollercoaster that gives people a terrible impression of temperature control. When its such a popular mod, they really should rebrand their TC as "overheat protection for up to 80W", not temperature control, because they are ruining the TC reputation for the rest of us.
