Ultrasonic cleaning of coils https://ift.tt/3nGzkUO

I got the idea to try putting my old coils (Horizon Tech Arco II) in an ultrasonic cleaner to see if I could re-use them.

I bought an inexpensive ultrasonic cleaner from Amazon and put a bunch of my old coils in it with a mixture of rubbing alcohol and water. I ran it for about 10 minutes. I noticed that the liquid had gone from clear to the color of weak tea. I replaced it with fresh water and ran it for another 10 minutes.

The cotton of the coils looked clean so I let them air-dry for a few days and tried one. It worked. The burnt taste was gone and they worked fine. My cleaned coils don't last as long as new ones but they work and it's cheaper to clean them than it is to buy new ones.

I'm not sure how many uses I'll get out of them but I have at least tripled the useful life of my coils.
